Kanazawa City has introduced a ” accommodation tax” effective for stays on April 1, 2019.
The accommodation tax is a non-statutory purpose tax levied on overnight guests at lodging facilities to cover the costs of measures to promote sustainable tourism in harmony with the daily lives of citizens, while enhancing Kanazawa’s unique charms such as history, traditions, and culture.
- accommodation fee is less than 5,000 yen: Not taxable
- accommodation fee is less than 20,000 yen: 200 yen per person per night
- accommodation fee is 20,000 yen or more: 500 yen per person per night
