An event that captures the essence of the historic city of Kanazawa will be held in March and April of 2023. If you are planning to visit Japan during the cherry blossom season, why not check out this event?
The 90-minute event consists of a tea ceremony and geisha performances in a traditional townhouse building that is now used as an accommodation. Only 20 people are allowed to attend to each performance. This allows guests to experience the event up close and personal in a traditional Japanese room.

When is the event?
The event is held on March 29 and 31, and April 3, 5, 7, 13 and 19. It starts at 12:30 pm and the door opens at 12:15 pm.
Where is the venue?
Kikuno-ya (菊乃や) is a traditional townhouse (machiya) in Kazuemachi, one of the three chaya districts in Kanazawa. Now the house has been converted into a machiya hotel. It is only a 10-minute bus ride from JR Kanazawa Station. The Asanogawa River runs along the chaya district, and rows of cherry trees line both sides.
Geisha and Tea Ceremony
During the event, the guests will participate in a tea ceremony where the tea master will prepare and serve tea according to traditional and elegant etiquette. The utensils used in the ceremony are traditional artisan ware, demonstrating how the Kanazawa’s aesthetic sensibilities have been refined. Guests will then learn how to prepare a bowl of tea.
Afterward, geishas, called “geigi” in Kanazawa, perform traditional dance and music. After enjoying the show, it is your turn. Guests and the geishas will play the Japanese drums and enjoy some games together.
The price is 14,300 yen and you can book at artofgeisha.jp.
